MAPS Credit Union's FIS core banking system connected to NiCE CXone via a purpose-built API bridge with layered fault tolerance for FIS API volatility.
MAPS Credit Union is a Pacific Northwest-based credit union providing member banking services across its community. Like most credit unions modernizing their member experience infrastructure, MAPS operates with NiCE CXone as its contact center platform and FIS as its core banking system. Both are mission-critical. In isolation, neither was delivering the member experience the organization intended.
MAPS had already implemented NiCE CXone and FIS independently. The two systems were not connected, and no off-the-shelf integration existed between them. Agents handling member inquiries had to manually toggle between the contact center platform and the core banking system to access account information — adding handle time, introducing error risk, and creating friction.
Building the connection required a custom API layer. The additional complication was the FIS side: its APIs were intermittently unstable, returning unpredictable failures that any integration solution would need to handle with fault tolerance built in, not bolted on.
Primero Group designed and deployed a purpose-built API bridge connecting MAPS' FIS core to CXone, enabling agents to surface member account data mid-interaction without switching platforms. The integration was built with a layered fault tolerance framework to manage upstream FIS API volatility — logging failures, triggering retries, and maintaining service continuity without surfacing the instability to agents or members.
An observability layer was built in from the start: diagnostic tooling, debugging capability, and SLA tracking that gave MAPS' technical team full visibility into integration performance. The architecture was designed to be scalable. The same foundation that connects FIS to CXone today is positioned to extend into CRM, AI, and future platform integrations.
Post-deployment, MAPS retained Primero Group for managed services: ongoing performance monitoring, incident triage, and active management of the high volume of FIS-origin API failures that continue to require handling.
MAPS Credit Union demonstrates our CX integration capability in a regulated financial services environment where there is no off-the-shelf answer. Credit union core banking integrations with modern CCaaS platforms are structurally complex, frequently underdocumented by platform vendors, and require engineering teams willing to build bespoke solutions under real operational constraints.
The FIS API volatility, and the fault tolerance architecture built to manage it, is the technical detail that distinguishes this from a standard integration project. The evolution from integration delivery into managed services and AI advisory reflects the depth of institutional relationships we build with clients.
Primero Group continues to manage MAPS' CXone environment through managed services and is leading AI consultation for the next phase of member experience automation — scoping vendor evaluations and identifying high-impact automation opportunities.
